Tips on French Bulldog Training

French bulldog training is important if you want your dog to be well behaved. The French bulldog is a small dog that looks like a pug with bat ears. There has been some dispute among historians whether the breed originated in France or England. One account has it that the breed did indeed originate in England, but it was the demand from the French that led to proliferation of this breed. When lace-makers from England lost their jobs to the Industrial revolution, they moved to France. These lace makers where also well-known dog breeders and they took some of the dogs with them which we know today as French bulldogs. The French took a fancy to them as they made excellent companion dogs and thereafter their popularity really grew.

French bulldog training should be started early, as what the pup learns in its early formative years will be embedded in its mind for life. It is harder to mold the personality of a grown dog. So start early and you’ll have an edge. And the dog should also be trained regarding food habits. Give your dog good nutritious protein rich foods – dogs are after all carnivorous. But train the dog to have regular food timings so that it won’t come and tug at your bed sheet at odd hours in the night. After all, French bulldogs must be kept indoors, because they are able to cope with outdoor conditions.

But in French bulldog training, there is one thing they must do outdoors – their bathroom business. These dogs are small and won’t create a big mess, but still they must be trained to do their bathroom business in one spot. Make sure you clean that spot regularly or it will be too dirty for even the dog to use. And make sure you spend enough time with your dog. It is after all a companion dog and the companionship should be mutual. The French bulldog will get bored if left alone for too long and will start barking. French bulldogs often bark due to boredom. Stimulate the dog with a little fun and games. The French bulldog is not a dog that needs a lot of exercise, but nevertheless you should at least take it out for a daily walk.

And in French bulldog training, make sure the dog obeys you and this is possible with repetitive commands which the dog will eventually learn the meaning of. Use proper verbal cues to refer to a certain action you might want the dog to do. After a few times, the dog will learn the meaning of it and respond to the verbal command.

French bulldog training involves using proper tone of voice. Dogs have a better sense of hearing than us and while they do not understand the meaning of words, they do understand the meaning if tone of voice and can interpret the tone of voice. Also, use hand gestures as an alternative to verbal cues. It might be useful when the dog is out of you audible range.
